Connecting Rooms With Colour

When selecting a colour scheme for the home, one of the biggest mistakes that people make is focusing on their rooms individually, rather than considering the entire house as a whole. By connecting rooms with colour, you’ll create a continuity and balance that makes for a far more relaxing and harmonious space. But the benefits don’t end there.

What Are The Real Benefits?

Connecting the rooms in your home through colour has many advantages. The most noticeable difference you’ll see is an aesthetic continuity that extends throughout the whole living space; instead of seeing each room as a separate entity, you’ll instead create a space that feels more complete. This doesn’t mean that you have to use exactly the same colours throughout the whole house though; but selective repetition of colour creates a scheme that is far more pleasing on the eye. Not only this, but linking through colour actually makes the house feel larger as well. Whereas competing colour schemes will create a sense of boundaries between rooms, symbiotic colour schemes will break down these barriers, making it seem as though you have one large, connected living space. And finally (but by no means least importantly), if you’re going to be decorating your home using many of the same colours and materials, you can expect to save a fair amount of money as well.

How Do I Do It?

There are numerous ways to connect colours throughout your home. Once of the simplest (and most cost effective) ways to do so is through the walls, whether it’s through using the same colour paint or the same type of Wallpaper Sales wallpaper. Don’t be concerned that this will not create enough variety of colour in the home though; you’ll have plenty of opportunities to vary things through the use of furnishings, flooring, accessories and ornaments. Another way to link colour is through the furnishings themselves. If you don’t feel like repainting the whole house but would like a little more continuity, choosing similarly coloured curtains, cushions and upholstery is a great fall-back.

The Benefits Are Plain to See

It’s easy to get caught in the trap of decorating each room in your home individually. But in fact, if you look beyond the individual rooms and instead see your home as a whole, the aesthetic and financial benefits are plain to see.
