Tips For Cleaning A Stain On A Carpet

Tips For Cleaning A Stain On A Carpet

Carpets are one of the most popular flooring materials in Canada. They’re soft and comfortable to walk on, and keep your feet warm. Carpets also come in a number of different colors and designs so you can easily install something that suits your preferences and requirements. However, carpets only look good if they’re clean and well-maintained. Unfortunately, this material tends to trap dust and debris, and it can also become stained easily. Even small spills can leave behind unsightly marks on the surface and compromise the carpet’s appearance. Here are some tips that can help you remove stains from the material:

1. Remove spills immediately

If you’ve spilled wine, coffee, or other such beverages on your carpet, you need to work on removing it immediately. The longer you delay, the more likely it is to spread and penetrate deep into the surface of the material. Use a tissue to soak up as much of the liquid as you can. Be sure to dab the area instead of rubbing the tissue in as that will only spread the liquid across the carpet.

2. Cleaning agent

Once you have removed the excess spill, you can apply the cleaning agent to the carpet in order to remove traces of liquid that has already penetrated into the carpet material. You can use a store bought cleaner or use a combination of mild dishwashing liquid mixed in warm water and some white vinegar. This solution will help remove most of the stains present in the carpet.

3. Blot the stain

Once the cleaning solution has time to soak and agitate the stain, you can blot it away. You need to make sure you don’t press the spill deeper into the carpet so use gentle pressure and motions. You should also clean from outside and carefully blot towards the center of the stain. This helps confine the stain and ensure it doesn’t spread to the cleaner areas of the carpet. Keep applying the cleaning solution and blotting the area until all of the stain is removed.

4. Drying

After the stain is removed, clean the area with water in order to remove the traces of soap and cleaning solution left behind. Once you’re certain the carpet area is clean and stain-free, you need to let it air dry completely before you use it. A great way to dry the area is to place thick paper towels or absorbent cloth on the wet area and place something heavy like a book on it. Keep changing the cloth or towel until all of the water from the carpet is absorbed and the area is completely dry. This method of carpet cleaning will ensure no dust or debris is trapped in the recently cleaned portion of the carpet.

5. Common cleaning solutions

  • Blood – Soak the area club soda or cold water and blot until the stain is removed.

  • Greasy stains – A combination of warm water, dish washer, and vinegar should help remove these stains.

  • Gum – Use ice to freeze the gum and peel it away.

  • Beverages – A combination of warm water, dish washer, and vinegar should help remove these stains.

  • Pet stains – Use the enzymatic cleaner available at pet stores.

If all of these tips do not work, get help from a carpet cleaning company. Professional cleaners have access to better tools and know effective techniques to remove all kinds of stains from different kinds of carpets. They’ll also completely clean the carpet in order restore its appearance and ensure there’s no dirt or debris trapped inside.
