How to Renovate Your Kitchen on a Budget

How to Renovate Your Kitchen on a Budget

Kitchen renovation can be quite a costly task, and for those on a tight budget wanting to give their kitchen a whole new look, the prices can often seem pretty daunting or even impossible. However, breathing new life into your kitchen doesn’t always have to break the bank, as there’s a number of ways you can give your kitchen a style makeover without splashing out on expensive new fixtures and fittings. We’ve put together a list of budget-friendly renovation ideas that you might like to use when remodeling your kitchen.

Countertop Paint

Rather than refitting completely new counters, you can save yourself a lot of money by simply painting your existing counters to a finish that you desire. There are a number of paints that are suitable for counter tops available in a variety of different colors and finishes. If you have wooden countertops, giving them a new finish can make them look brand new again. Tung oil wood finish is a great option for country style kitchens, but there are lots of options available to you.

Chalkboard Wall

One great way to add a cute and unique design element to your kitchen is to install a cheap chalkboard wall and invest in some differently colored chalkboard paints. You can use permanent chalkboard paints to create lasting designs, or buy chalk that can be wiped on and off to create different designs. This is a great idea for those with kids who want a child-friendly kitchen.

Make Grout Sparkle Again

One of the easiest ways to add a breath of fresh air to your kitchen is to thoroughly clean any dirty grout that you may have. Rather than completely replacing the grout, it’s much cheaper to give it a good clean up and then brighten it up with a special grout paint. Although the lines of grout between tiles are quite small, the difference is amazing once they’re sparkling.

Glass Window Shelves

To add more storage space to your kitchen but without obstructing any natural light, consider adding glass window shelves to your kitchen windows. The shelves are designed from glass and will not obstruct the light, however they provide a handy place to store objects, ornaments or plants to add an unusual design element to your kitchen.

Glue-On Ceiling Panels

These panels are relatively cheap to obtain and easy to apply, and can give your kitchen a whole new look. They’re available in a variety of different colors and designs so you’ll be sure to find one that fits your needs whether you’re looking for modern or traditional designs. The panels can be cut down to size with a xacto knife and are able to be glued directly to any ceiling material.

Are you a thrifty renovator? Do you have any great ideas for budget kitchen renovation that you’d like to add to this list? Whether you’re obsessed with DIY or simply have a brilliant idea that you can’t wait to share with others, we’d love to hear from you in the comments section below.
