The various fittings available for attaching PVC makes it applicable to almost all settings, except for application in high temperature. It is much better than the old school cast iron pipes. This is because PVC pipes are resistant to almost all toxic and alkaline substances, it does not require to be hot soldered, and again, it is very easy to install. These pipes are generally divided into two types- 40 and 80, the former for homes and the latter for industrial uses.

Advantages of using PVC pipes

  • Chemically resistant
  • Fire resistant
  • Electrolytic and galvanic attack proof
  • Taste, odour and toxin free
  • Low thermal conductivity
  • Low friction loss

How can you install the pipe?

  • Cut the pipe

Cutting PVC pipes is quite hassle-free. You can use a hacksaw to cut it. However, abrasive disks come with miter saws, making it better at getting straighter edges. If a joint, that is skewed to the pipe has not been cut straight, can throw off the full run of the pipe.

  • Smooth the edges and fit

Once you are done with cutting, clean the shavings off the pipe and smooth the inside edges. After cutting the pipe to the desired length, lay it out on the ground with all the fittings in place in order to ensure that the length is fine.  If the length is absolutely proper, get ready for installing the pipe.

  • Clean and cement

Use primer, an all-purpose pipe cleaner to clean the same. To make sure that there are no contaminants left, swab the primer inside the fittings and around the end of the pipe. Cleaning is very important; otherwise, it can get in the way of adhesion.

PVC is joined with a special kind of cement, which sets up real quick. So, be absolutely ready to attach once you apply the latter. The inner surface of the pipe needs to be attached with cement. Once the cement is applied, insert the pipe into the fitting, and then turn it back to make sure that the glue has covered the whole joint. Also make sure that pipe has seated properly in the joint.

  • Install pipe hangers

Once you have settled the pipe in place, and it is absolutely perfect in its length, it is time you install pipe hangers for supporting the former. Doing so eases any tension on joints, which can lead to leakage. You need to follow recommendations for distances from one hanger to another, which is generally four feet, allowing for movement in contraction and expansion. Make sure that the pipe is protected from screws, nails and abrasive materials.

Following these steps will allow to install a PVC pipe on your own. However, if you need professional help, you can always hire emergency plumbers Cambridge.
