Earlier in the year we reported on the new Airtight galleries that had been designed as add-ons for the Lightroom Web module. Maybe you checked out this story, downloaded these galleries and installed them. If you didn’t well not to worry, because these are now included as part of the lightroom 1.3 update and provide you with an extra set of gallery formats to compliment the standard Lightroom gallery styles.

So, here we are at Lightroom version 1.3 and the question most users will be asking is – what’s new? On the surface very little, but just like an iceberg there’s lots beneath the surface.
As I hinted in my introduction there are few if any obvious visual changes in in this new release. Lightroom 1.3 is primarily about fixing as many bugs as possible whilst also putting in place infrastructure improvements for the future. The following is a summary of the main issues that Adobe have addressed in 1.3:-

Lightroom Product Manager Tom Hogarty has announced that there be an update to Lightroom in mid-November. This will bring Lightroom to full Leopard compatibility.
“As noted in Adobe’s Leopard FAQ the current version of Lightroom 1.2 is not fully compatible with Leopard, Mac OS X 10.5. The good news is that we’ll be releasing an update in mid-November that will address key compatibility issues. In the interim, the following list describes areas where photographers may encounter problems with Lightroom 1.2 on Leopard:

Andy Rahn, from the Adobe Lightroom team, has an excellent walkthrough on solving an installation issue with Lightroom 1.2. What is a clever move on the part of the installer, is turning out to be a problem for a number of non English users. Basically Lightroom checks your regional settings and installs itself with the relevant regional language, even with the installer in English (French & German being the other languages in the normal installer). Not all users want to use this version and would prefer to work through English. This article shows how to get the English version instead of the regional version.

The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Book 1.1 update:
The Lightroom 1.1 preferences
We’re not quite done yet. There are still a few more innovations in Lightroom 1.1 that should get a mention. Namely, what’s new in the Slideshow Print and Web modules. For this final chapter I have grouped these new features all together into a single section.

The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Book 1.1 update:
The Lightroom 1.1 preferences
So much has been changed in the way that the Lightroom preferences have been laid out and added to, that it seemed best to offer a complete guide to configuring the preference options, including those items that are new to Lightroom 1.1.

The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Book 1.1 update:
The new look Develop module menu
If you thought that the Library module had a lot of new additions, just wait till you see what the Develop module has in store. The recent Adobe Camera Raw 4.1 update offered a few clues as to what you might expect to see in Lightroom 1.1, things like the new sharpening and clarity adjustments. To borrow Russell Brown’s catchphrase ‘but wait, there’s more…!’, there is indeed more. We’ve got Match Exposure, hierarchical presets, camera-specific defaults, new tool overlays, plus new improvements to the Remove Spots and Remove Red Eye tools (which I shall be covering in the second part to this story about the Develop module).
