Like us, you may be considering the purchase of an Apple MacBook Pro as a way to bring deadline-friendly processing speed to a Mac-based field workflow. For several years, certain models of Apple’s Powerbook line have represented a superb blend of features, screen quality and portability; in fact, the overall design of the company’s mobile machines has far eclipsed computers we’ve used from mainstream PC vendors in all key areas, except one: speed. A PowerPC G4-equipped Mac laptop simply can’t keep up to a Windows laptop powered by an Intel or AMD processor.

At Macworld, Apple announced that a Universal Binary version of Aperture would be made available at the end of March, 2006 for a charge of $49.00.

Aperture owners have balked at having to pay to get a UB build of Aperture and apparently Apple has reversed the decision to charge customers for the upgrade.

Apple is shepherding the Mac and its legions of software developers through yet another major transition — this one nearly as momentous as the shift to OS X. Once again, the centerpiece of the change lies in the microprocessor at the heart of the Mac.

If one thing dominates the technical history of Apple Computer, it’s transitions. The most recent example: the shift from Apple’s old operating system OS 9 to OS X.

It was like starting all over again with a completely new computer.
