I am not sure it is a case of "who would replace Mark?" The
Lightroom team already includes a substantial number of talented engineers who are dedicated to working on different areas of the program. Mark was particularly involved with implementing the non-destructive localised adjustment tools for Lightroom 2.0. Now, if you have had a chance to play with these in the public 2.0 beta, then you will hopefully get the sense that they are feature ready. OK, you may well see some changes in the final shipping version, but the point is that Mark had already completed his work on this area just before he left Adobe. Therefore, Lightroom 2.0 is not really going to be affected in any way by his departure.

I can't speak for how the LR team felt personally at his leaving (Jeff Schewe is going to post a photo story next week on Mark's leaving party), but you know, there is quite a bit of time between now and Lightroom 3.0 for the team to work out what the priorities will be for the following version of Lightroom.

Who is replacing Mark? Was this a surprise for the Lr team? It does not bode well for 2.0 I'm afraid.
I wish Mark success in his new position!

What I wish for is that Mark would stick around but I understand he feels its time to move on. I hope MS realizes what a huge talent they have and makes best use of Mark. We will miss him!
