External Application Chooser for Adobe Lightroom
Dirk Essl has seen a gap in the Lightroom External editing options and created a solution. Basically, in Lightroom, you can choose Photoshop and one other Application from which to edit files with Lightroom adjustments. While you can Export and then open them in another Application, you then need to reimport the file. Using Edit in Application, Lightroom creates the new file in the Library and then opens it for editing in the external Application.
Dirk has created a little Applescript based program called ImagingChooser. This stores shortcuts to other programs, allowing you to select whichever one you need whenever you want. Simply install ImagingChooser and select it in the External Editing tab in Lightroom preferences. When you run it, ImagingChooser will open. From there select the shortcut you require. To add more shortcuts, hold Command and Option down while dragging the new App into the Applications>ImagingChooser>Apps folder. If you manually create the alias, remember to delete the ‘Alias’ from the name. This is currently a Mac OSX script only, but Dirk says he’ll create a VB script for Windows users when time allows.
UPDATE The Windows version is now available.

What I really want to be able to do is open a copy of the original raw file in Photoshop without Lightroom adjustments? This way I can make the adjustments to the raw file inside Photoshop. The only option I get is to open a copy with Lightroom adjustments, which means all the adjustments must be done inside Lightroom.
Does anyone know how to open a copy of the original raw file in Photoshop? Is it even possible.
Thanks.
BrianVA
Brian, without knowing your motivation or intent, I can suggest a few ways.
Create a Virtual Copy and reset the original. Then open in photoshop.
Export Original and have Photoshop as the Post Processing action.
You do know that the RAW engine in Lightroom and Photoshop are the same?
Yes, I know both engines are the same. I just find it more convenient sometimes to do everything within Photoshop. This is especially true if I significant work to do within Photoshop, i.e., panoramics, HDR, etc.

I have created a similar apple script but it changes the path extension from tiff to nef.
The application that you choose will then open the original file you edit then save as a tiff to the export location. File updated as required.
I am happy to share my apple script with whomever would like it.
BrianVA: you can simply drag and drop pictures out of Lightroom into Photoshop. Then you will see the Adobe Camera Raw to open the files. Of course you then need to re-import the created files into Lightroom.
olrac: you want to send me a copy? I can then integrate it into my script (as you requested).
Dirk, drag and drop is true for Mac, but I don’t believe this is the case on PC.
