Marc Rochkind has announced a new program for Lightroom Users. With LRViewer being a free Catalog Viewer, LRViewer will allow Professional Photographers to tailor the Catalog View that the client sees. Marc has given detailed plans for the program on the LRVeiwer page. Projected features include

That’s something Adobe should make in the first place with Lightroom itself – fast (Lightroom is enough fast to editing photos but too slow to browse them), free Lightroom archive browser with simple interface. It could be something like Lightroom Library module stand-alone without edit options. And the idea of password protected catalogs it’s something that I’m missing in Lightroom.
I’ve checked LRView Windows Version yesterday. It’s promising app, but it has too many bugs now. :(
I agree with Jeremy in that it’s such a shame Lightroom is so slow. It’s such a powerful app, but it really feels like it was written in a scripting language. i.e. it’s very “clunky”. A simple and fast catalogue viewer really should have been provided by Adobe given Lightroom’s limitations. But… in the meantime, thanks to Marc for the effort. I wish LRViewer could search metadata though. Hopefully that’ll come in future versions…
