Lightroom Update Mid November for Leopard Compatibility

Lightroom Product Manager Tom Hogarty has announced that there be an update to Lightroom in mid-November. This will bring Lightroom to full Leopard compatibility.

“As noted in Adobe’s Leopard FAQ the current version of Lightroom 1.2 is not fully compatible with Leopard, Mac OS X 10.5. The good news is that we’ll be releasing an update in mid-November that will address key compatibility issues. In the interim, the following list describes areas where photographers may encounter problems with Lightroom 1.2 on Leopard:

Podcast #42 with Jay Maisel, Greg Gorman and Seth Resnick

George Jardine has posted a new Podcast featuring Jay Maisel, Greg Gorman, Seth Resnick. It’s a fantastically insightful podcast with quite a lot of amusing banter!

Welcome to what may be my very best conversation yet. Or at least the most fun and insightful. Sit down with Jay Maisel, Greg Gorman and Seth Resnick, as we have a long and rambling discussion about film archives, digital archives, various sorting and editing methods, and how they all intersect. Or not. The interesting thing to me is that when I go back and edit these things, I frequently hear a very different conversation than the one I was actually part of. While editing this recording, I found Jay continually driving at a singular point about why he photographs, how he edits, and why he feels shooting to please yourself is the only important thing for a photographer.

This podcast was recorded on Tuesday, October 16th, 2007 at Jay Maisel’s studio in NYC.

Duration: 41:48

The podcast can be downloaded from George’s iDisk at:

This podcast is labeled “20071016 Podcast – Maisel Gorman Resnick” in the Public directory.

Or, it can be found on iTunes (within a few days) by searching under Podcasts for “Lightroom”. The RSS feed is:

Scroll Gallery

I always feel funny linking to my own posts. I usually only do it when I feel there really is something extra to offer. Today it’s a new gallery for the Lightroom Web Module. The difference with this one it that it contains a self assigned menu system. There are 5 pages you can link to from this gallery, so you could in fact use it to build a small website. For example, the way it is coded you could have a home page, about page and 3 galleries quite easily.

Creating Text Slides for Slideshow in Lightroom.

A little discussion in Lightroom Forums.net led me to create a video on how to make text slides in Lightroom. The main use I have for this is as a separator between types of image in a Slideshow. While the post was done on my personal Lightroom Blog, I’m posting it here for all you delightful Lightroom-News readers. The video is in iPod m4v format so Right click to download. Enjoy.

Source: John Nack on Adobe
Author: John Nack

It’s been exactly two years since Apple threw its hat into the professional photography ring with the introduction of Aperture. Adobe responded shortly thereafter with the introduction of Lightroom. So, how does the pro photography market look now?

InfoTrends recently surveyed 1,026 professional photographers in North America to determine which software they used for raw file processing. Here’s what folks reported:

PixelGenius members will be at next week’s PhotoPlus Expo, check out what’s happening and what we’ll be doing.

We all get in early because we’ll be having a PixelGenius meeting (it’s always tough to figure out how to hook up with Martin over in London–although Seth was over there this week for a visit and workshop). Starting on Thursday, October 18th, we’ll be invading the expo and talking up a storm.

Podcast 40 & 41 posted

After a 6 week interlude, George Jardine has posted not one, but two Lightroom Podcasts in quick succession.

Podcast #40 is an interview with Chris Rainier:

It [being able to ’see and pre-visualize’ in black and white] allowed me to speak of things that were beyond the color spectrum, beyond a certain reality, and go into what I like to call magical realism.” – Chris Rainier

Podcast #41 is with renowned photographer Steve McCurry:

Some of the great pictures, you just look at them and you marvel at them, for the subject matter and somehow they struck a chord in you. But it’s rarely about the technique. It’s not about the lens, or the film, or the light necessarily. It’s really just some story in that picture. Some emotional element which you connect with.” – Steve McCurry

Bridge as a front end to Lightroom

Although Lightroom is advertised as being a member of the ‘Photoshop family’, Lightroom and Photoshop do at times feel more like distant cousins rather than close relatives. People are often puzzled about the relationship between Lightroom and Adobe Bridge and why it is you can browse images easily via Bridge, but in the case of Lightroom, you have to import everything first.

The following tips do assume that you already own Phtoshop CS2 or later, and therefore have access to Adobe Bridge which is the browser component of the Creative Suite (Adobe Bridge comes with Photoshop whether you buy the entire Suite package or just the standalone program). So let me show you how you a few ways you can improve the workflow between working in Bridge and working in Lightroom.
