Scanner Artist Marsha Tudor Exhibit

floatgallerynmarshatudor-1.jpgMarina del Rey, Calif. — Float Gallery presents works of direct digital capture by Marsha Tudor, August 31 through September 16, 2006.

The show includes original digital prints from botanical sources which, despite their representational origin, explore perception and visual relationships.

Marsha Tudor, scanner artist, challenges conventional views of photography and digital capture. Using an Epson 4990 scanner, she creates images of such sculptural dimensionality that they belie the flat surface on which they are created. The exceptional resolution possible with a flatbed scanner produces images of remarkable clarity; this sharp focus is dramatically supported by the dark backgrounds which often result from the top being removed from the scanner.

Visitors to Danny Ferrer’s Web site found deals too good to be true.

Instead of paying $600 for Adobe Photoshop, Ferrer listed it for $99.95 on his site, www.buysusa.com. He offered similar deals for other products.

PSN On Hiatus for PixelGenius Meeting

pg-gang.jpg

Martin is due in this afternoon and the rest of the boys on Friday (except for Bruce cause he can’t fly at the moment so we’re going to iChat with him) for our annual PG Meeting. We have a lot to cover about some “interesting developments” (TOP SECRET-We Can Tell No One!). So, until next week, PSN will be on standby.

We will post a resolution regarding the Mac Photoshop 9.0.2 issues on 10.3.9 as soon as we’ve heard from our Adobe sources. The original Mac Updater has been withdrawn and will be replaced (it’s not yet known if it will be another 9.0.2 or a rev to 9.0.3). those people who have installed it on 10.3.9 should downgrade to 9.0.1. People running the 9.0.2 update on 10.4.x don’t need to worry.

I’m not sure if we’re going to have quite the photographic coverage this year, but if you want to see what goes on behind closed doors, check out last year’s meeting report. I do know for a fact we’ll be making at least one Sam’s run.

So, tune in again next week!

Jeff Schewe’s Santa Fe Workshop

jeff.jpgEvery September, Jeff Schewe travels, by motorcycle, to teach his one week class at the Santa Fe Workshops. This year, his workshop Advanced Photoshop for Photographers runs from September 18th–22nd, 2006.

His class is not intended for the faint of heart nor Photoshop rookies-it’s an intensive 5 days of hammering on and learning about Photoshop from one of the most knowledgable Photoshop instructors around. It’s also a pretty fun experience as long as you don’t start crying (to be fair, Jeff has only brought one person to tears in his 7 years of teaching at the SF Workshops and the guy who cried on Monday ended up learning a lot by Friday). As of Monday there were a couple of open spots if anybody is interested. Contact the Santa Fe Workshops at 505-983-1400.

Photojournalism in Crisis

Source: Editor & Publisher
Written by David D. Perlmutter

The Israeli-Hezbollah war has left many dead bodies, ruined towns, and wobbling politicians in its wake, but the media historian of the future may also count as one more victim the profession of photojournalism. In twenty years of researching and teaching about the art and trade and doing photo-documentary work, I have never witnessed or heard of such a wave of attacks on the people who take news pictures and on the basic premise that nonfiction news photo- and videography is possible.

I’m not sure, however, if the craft I love is being murdered, committing suicide, or both.
